Following the momentum of Leveraging Literacy, JerseyCAN presents Where the Rubber Meets the Road, a bold call to action focused on turning legislative progress into classroom results. With the passage of landmark literacy laws and the formation of the New Jersey Working Group on Student Literacy, this report outlines four critical policy pushes needed to ensure meaningful implementation: job-embedded coaching for teachers, the elimination of the ineffective three-cueing strategy, customized reading plans for students with reading deficiencies, and clear, data-informed read-at-home plans for families. As New Jersey prepares to elect new state leadership, this report emphasizes the urgent need to sustain and strengthen our commitment to literacy. Together, we can ensure every child becomes a confident, capable reader.
