JerseyCAN and Better Education for Kids released the following statements upon the release of A4957 from the Assembly Education Committee today:
Shelley Skinner, Executive Director of B4K, noted: “All New Jersey students should move on to college and careers with solid educational foundations. To best serve these students, we need to ensure that our state high school diploma reflects true content mastery. We are pleased that the Assembly’s decision reflects this need for high standards while also allowing the classes of 2019 and 2020 to focus their attention on the next steps in their lives.”
JerseyCAN Executive Director Patricia Morgan explained: “We are grateful to Assemblywoman Lampitt and the members of the Assembly Education Committee for their quick action on this bill. We hope that the Legislature quickly advances A4957/S3381 to a full vote in the Senate and Assembly. An urgent legislative fix is necessary to update the law to reflect our current assessment system and most importantly to end the confusion and anxiety about how thousands of students will graduate this spring.”
