Statement from Paula White Regarding Nomination of Kevin Dehmer for NJ Education Commissioner:
All indicators show our next Commissioner faces truly historic challenges as the State continues to grapple with how to support all students in meeting basic grade-level standards. Without question, time is of the essence.
Most of us who have worked in New Jersey education and are committed to positively challenging the status quo, know Kevin well. He knows the Department of Education, and has cultivated valuable relationships throughout the state. We commend the Governor for choosing someone who is focused on efficacy, skilled at fiscal accountability, and can hit the ground running on Day One. JerseyCAN will fully support our new Education Commissioner, and that includes engaging with the Department as they shepherd the field through instructional shifts that must be made, and strengthening voices that must be heard in the process.
