On Sept. 30, 2018, The Press of Atlantic City published an opinion piece by David Danzis regarding Gov. Phil Murphy and his team’s education policy. The article cited JerseyCAN:
Ruiz wrote the tenure reform law of 2012 that allowed for the measure of student performance to be used in teacher evaluations. She and her counterpart, Assembly Education Committee Chairwoman Pamela Lampitt, followed up with a joint legislative hearing on the testing and a commitment to an open deliberation on what would replace PARCC if it’s terminated.
That process was supported by education reform groups, including JerseyCAN and Better Education for Kids. Murphy subsequently indicated that, although he still is against PARCC, he’s open to a full discussion on it — and he supports some sort of assessment for students and teachers.
