NEWARK, NJ — Education advocates in Newark are among those who signed a letter on Wednesday urging Gov. Phil Murphy to prioritize the creation of statewide programs to alleviate learning loss.

More than 15 groups, comprised of education advocates, business associations, parents, and teachers, issued a letterpdf to the governor to address reports of “staggering” learning gaps experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for low-income students.

Newark education advocates Shennell McCloud, CEO of Project Ready; Kyle Rosenkrans, Executive Director of New Jersey Children’s Foundation; Jamilah Muhammad, CEO of Parent Impact; Tafshier Cosby, CEO of Parent Impact and Vivian Cox Frazier, CEO of Urban League of Essex all signed the letter.
