Despite dramatic increases in spending levels, changes in leadership and policy, and various reform efforts such as curriculum and class size changes, the quality of education delivered by America’s public schools has continued to decline. An alarming lack of competition and an absence of rigor have reinforced failure while stifling high-performing alternatives. Moreover, the bottom 25 percent of our nation’s schools routinely underserve our most vulnerable children. If our nation – and our state – is to survive as a free republic and thrive, we must reverse this trend. I joined JerseyCAN because it is dedicated to learning from effective academic outcomes, developing new solutions, and passionately advocating to ensure that every family can access high-quality schools.
